President Marcos accepts Bonoan resignation as DPWH chief

President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. has accepted the resignation of Public Works and Highways Secretary Manuel M. Bonoan, effective Monday, September 1, amid ongoing controversy over flood control projects.

President Marcos has named Transportation Secretary Vince Dizon as Bonoan’s replacement in the DPWH. Dizon has been directed to conduct a full internal sweep and ensure infrastructure spending benefits the people.

Lawyer Giovanni Z. Lopez has been named acting transportation chief. Having previously served as Undersecretary for Administration, Finance and Procurement, Lopez brings extensive experience from overseeing key railway, aviation, and maritime projects.

The Palace also announced the creation of an Independent Commission to Investigate Flood Control Anomalies. The body is tasked with reviewing projects, exposing irregularities, and recommending accountability measures.

“These decisions underscore the administration’s commitment to clean governance, institutional integrity, and delivering real progress under Bagong Pilipinas,” the Office of the President said in a statement.

The reshuffle signals a renewed drive to restore public trust and ensure infrastructure projects serve their intended purpose.
