Smart Communications, Inc., the wireless arm of PLDT Inc., has officially launched its 5G Standalone (SA) network in Iloilo City, effectively doubling internet speeds and slashing latency for subscribers.
“This is not just a pilot, it’s a full-blown launch,” said Smart COO Anastacio “Boy” Martirez, emphasizing the network’s enhanced capabilities for lag-free gaming, buffer-free streaming, and seamless online experiences. Martirez, a native of Western Visayas, noted the significance of choosing Iloilo as the first site of the nationwide rollout.
With the introduction of 5G SA, Smart subscribers in Iloilo can now enjoy next-level connectivity, allowing faster uploads, smoother video calls, and uninterrupted app performance—benefits that extend to both consumers and enterprises.
Smart is also working with smartphone vendors to expand the availability of compatible devices, ensuring more Filipinos can access the improved network.
Beyond speed, the 5G SA network enables advanced features like network slicing, which dedicates bandwidth for specific tasks—ideal for gamers, content creators, and businesses running critical operations.
