GCash enables instant remittance via Western Union

Leading finance super app GCash has partnered with Western Union to enable real-time international remittances from over 200 countries and territories directly into GCash e-wallets, enhancing financial access and convenience for millions of overseas Filipinos and their families.

The collaboration combines Western Union’s global remittance infrastructure with GCash’s expansive digital financial ecosystem, creating a seamless “cash-in” experience through the Western Union app, website, and physical agent network. Once sent, funds are instantly credited to the recipient’s GCash wallet, where they can be used immediately for everyday needs—from groceries and bills to savings, insurance, or investments.

“This collaboration with Western Union enables fast, secure, and reliable remittances, ensuring that the hard-earned money of OFWs reaches their families swiftly and safely,” said Paul Albano, GCash International general manager. He emphasized the partnership’s alignment with GCash’s mission to drive financial empowerment for Filipinos worldwide.

Customers can now send up to P500,000 per transaction, offering flexibility for both urgent needs and larger transfers. The move comes as the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) reports a record-high USD38 billion in OFW remittances in 2024—accounting for over 8 percent of the country’s GDP.

Gregory Laurent, Western Union regional VP for the Philippines and surrounding regions, called the partnership “a testament to our commitment to serve the global Filipino community through accessible, easy-to-use digital services.”

GCash users in the Philippines stand to benefit from the enhanced feature, leveraging the platform’s 339,000+ cash-in/cash-out outlets, 5.2 million QR-enabled merchants, and 520+ brand partners on its GLife ecosystem.

The partnership marks a significant step in transitioning remittance flows from traditional over-the-counter channels to digital platforms—offering faster, more secure, and user-controlled options for overseas Filipinos and their beneficiaries at home.
