Dizon commits to 60-day DPWH reorganization

Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Secretary Vince Dizon reaffirmed his commitment to complete the agency’s reorganization within 60 days, despite acknowledging the process as “very difficult but absolutely necessary,” during a media briefing at the DPWH headquarters.

“We are giving ourselves 60 days maximum to see how best we can reorganize,” Dizon said, noting the goal is to have a streamlined organization “ready to take on these challenges and move forward.”

The reorganization is a major regulatory move following President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. ‘s directive for top-to-bottom reforms in the agency, triggered by alleged corruption in multibillion-peso flood control projects. Dizon, who officially assumed office on Monday after taking his oath before President Marcos, said he has already ordered the courtesy resignation of all DPWH officials — from undersecretaries to district engineers — as part of the cleanup.

Dizon cited the President’s recent inspection of a “ghost” flood control project in Calumpit, Bulacan, where a contractor was reportedly paid for a nonexistent project. “This kind of project would not exist if there was no collusion within the DPWH,” he said.

The new secretary emphasized that a thorough personnel review will follow the resignations, with the aim of appointing only accountable and qualified individuals to key posts.

“Our President’s order is to find those people and remove them from their positions and prosecute them,” Dizon said.
