E-commerce platforms warned vs sale of illegal, unapproved products

MANILA, Philippines — The Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) has issued a stern warning to online marketplaces to cease the sale of illegal and unpermitted products.

The DICT voiced its support for recent enforcement actions led by the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) and the Cybercrime Investigation and Coordinating Center (CICC) targeting unauthorized online sales. The agencies met on 29 August 2025, to coordinate efforts and boost regulatory enforcement in the digital space.

E-commerce giants including Shopee, Lazada, TikTok, and Meta attended the meeting and have since been issued formal notices to take down listings of prohibited and unlicensed goods.

In a statement, the DICT said it remains committed to compelling digital platforms to protect consumers and uphold a safe and lawful online marketplace. “Protecting Filipino consumers and upholding the integrity of the digital economy is non-negotiable,” the agency said, warning of further action against violators.
