The Department of Transportation (DOTr) is targeting October or November 2025 to award the three remaining contract packages of the P488.5-billion Metro Manila Subway Project (MMSP), according to Transportation Secretary Giovanni Lopez.
The packages—CP 105, CP 108, and CP 109—are currently under negotiation. CP 105 covers the underground stations in Kalayaan and Bonifacio Global City; CP 108 includes the Lawton and Senate-Department of Education stations; and CP 109 involves the Ninoy Aquino International Airport Terminal 3 station and associated tunnel works.
Earlier, the DOTr awarded CP 101 to the Shimizu-Fujita-Takenaka-EEI joint venture, while CP 102 went to the Nishimatsu-DMCI partnership. Sumitomo secured CP 103, and CP 104 was awarded to the Megawide-Tokyu-Tobishima consortium.
Funded in part by a ¥848-billion (₱376.6 billion) loan from the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), the 33-kilometer MMSP underground line runs from Valenzuela to NAIA Terminal 3 and FTI in Taguig. Dubbed the “project of the century,” it is scheduled for full operations by 2029.
Once completed, the subway will cut travel time between Quezon City and NAIA from 1.5 hours to just 35 minutes, serve an estimated 370,000 passengers daily at launch, with capacity to scale up to one million. The MMSP will also interconnect with the North-South Commuter Railway (NSCR), improving metro-wide connectivity.
The upcoming contract awards mark a significant milestone in advancing the government’s infrastructure agenda and public transport modernization efforts.
