Taiwan Fructose taps First Gen for green energy

The Philippine unit of Taiwan Fructose Co. Ltd., a global sweetener manufacturer, has partnered with First Gen Corp. to power its Batangas facility with clean energy from geothermal sources.

Under an agreement signed on August 27, First Gen will supply renewable electricity from its Bacon-Manito (Bac-Man) geothermal complex in Bicol to Taiwan Fructose’s production and logistics hub located inside the First Philippine Industrial Park (FPIP).

The deal falls under the government’s Green Energy Option Program, aligning with Taiwan Fructose’s sustainability and decarbonization goals. The Batangas facility manufactures glucose, fructose syrups, and other sweeteners primarily for export.

“Geothermal energy provides reliable 24/7 baseload power with a lower carbon footprint—ideal for industrial operations,” said Carlo Vega, First Gen chief customer engagement officer.

First Gen, a Lopez-led company, operates 28 renewable energy plants across the Philippines with over 1,600 MW in combined capacity. Its portfolio includes geothermal, wind, solar, and hydro power, reinforcing energy security through clean and low-carbon sources.
