Filipino flavors shine in bento-style at Expo 2025 Osaka

At Expo 2025 in Osaka, Japan, the Philippine Pavilion offers more than just visual storytelling — it serves up a flavorful immersion into Filipino culture through Hain, a contemporary take-out concept by renowned Filipino restaurant Via Mare.

Named after the Filipino word for “to serve,” Hain reimagines traditional Filipino comfort food in a bento-style format, blending Filipino flavors with Japanese-inspired presentation. Curated by Via Mare in partnership with the Tourism Promotions Board (TPB) Philippines, the menu pays homage to regional culinary traditions while appealing to a global palate.

Visitors to Hain experience dishes such as Lechon Bisaya, Lumpiang Binondo, and Bam-I Guisado, which echo global culinary parallels while retaining their Filipino essence. Crowd favorites like Inasal na Manok, Sisig, and Pinaputok na Tilapia reflect the diversity of the archipelago’s regional cuisine. The menu is rounded out by local favorites like Empanaditas, Pancit Molo, and sweet treats including Turon and Suman at Mangga, capturing both nostalgia and innovation in every bite.

“Hain is more than food — it’s a cultural ambassador,” says Antonio Laron, Restaurant Manager at Hain. “Each bento box tells a story of Filipino heritage, identity, and creativity in a modern format that resonates across borders.”

Positioned in the Empowering Lives Zone near the East Gate of Expo Osaka, the Philippine Pavilion invites global visitors to experience Filipino culture through the universal language of food. The exhibit will run until October 13, 2025, as part of the country’s broader campaign to elevate Filipino excellence on the world stage.
