A delegation from the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) Parliamentary League, led by Chairperson Ms. Obuchi Yuko, visited Tanza Elementary School in Navotas City to observe the community-based activities of the Japanese nonprofit organization (NPO) Action.
The tour highlighted Action’s grassroots initiatives supporting vulnerable Filipino children, including youth rehabilitation programs, life skills training in childcare facilities, and community empowerment projects—all conducted with support from JICA’s Technical Cooperation for Grassroots Projects.
During the visit, Action representative Mr. Yokota Hajime introduced the organization’s core programs. JICA volunteer Ms. Maekawa Miho, currently stationed at Action’s Olongapo office, presented the “Chikara Project,” an initiative focused on empowering women in the local community.
Ms. Obuchi emphasized the importance of Japan’s international cooperation efforts reaching the grassroots level. She praised the contributions of Japanese NGOs and volunteers working abroad, noting that such partnerships not only address local needs but also strengthen Japan’s global engagement. She also expressed a commitment to applying the insights from the visit to enhance future cooperation strategies.
Following the school tour, the delegation visited a barangay in Navotas City’s Bicol area to gain a deeper understanding of the living conditions of local children and the broader impact of Action’s work in the community.
