APECO upskills locals for tech-driven jobs

A total of 277 individuals, including 35 APECO employees, graduated Monday from the joint Computer Literacy Program spearheaded by the Aurora Pacific Economic Zone and Freeport Authority (APECO), in partnership with TESDA and the Fil-Chi Love and Care Foundation, Inc.

The month-long training provided beneficiaries from Dinalungan, Casiguran, and Dicadi with essential digital skills—from basic hardware and software operation to troubleshooting and digital communication. The initiative aims to prepare the local workforce for employment in today’s tech-driven economy and support APECO’s efforts to attract investors by ensuring a digitally competent talent pool.

“Progress is only possible when we have a ready and competent workforce,” said APECO president and CEO Gil G. Taway IV, emphasizing the program’s role in strengthening local capacities for future industrial demands.

TESDA and the Fil-Chi Foundation supported the program with 40 laptops, 20 desktops, technical assistance, and transportation for facilitators. APECO provided accommodations, training venues, logistics, and community mobilization.

The initiative aligns with Taiwan’s New Southbound Policy, as noted by Taway, and strengthens APECO’s ties with Taiwanese partners through MECO and TECO. Further collaborations with TESDA are also in progress to expand upskilling programs across the ecozone.
