Citadines Bacolod goes green with geothermal power

Citadines Bacolod City, one of the city’s largest hotels, has signed a deal with First Gen Corporation to power its operations with 800 kilowatts of geothermal energy, reinforcing its commitment to sustainability.

The agreement, signed on September 16, enables the 200-room hotel—including its amenities, restaurants, and event spaces—to run on clean energy sourced from the Unified Leyte Geothermal Power Plant, operated by First Gen’s subsidiary, Energy Development Corp. (EDC).

Citadines Bacolod general manager Caleb Han said the move supports the hotel’s eco-friendly goals by reducing energy intensity and carbon footprint. First Gen’s Arlene Sy Soriano highlighted the company’s dedication to helping businesses transition to renewable energy.

EDC is the world’s largest vertically integrated geothermal firm, while First Gen’s renewable portfolio also includes wind, hydro, and solar assets. The group’s geothermal power is a reliable 24/7 energy source, ideal for large-scale, continuous operations like hotels.
