PAL expands Cebu hub with new Calbayog route

Flag carrier Philippine Airlines (PAL) is set to launch a new Cebu-Calbayog route starting October 26, with four weekly flights, as part of its ongoing efforts to strengthen Cebu as a key regional aviation hub.

“This new service will provide travelers from Eastern Visayas direct access to Visayas and Mindanao, enhancing connectivity and convenience,” said Rabbi Vincent Ang, president of PAL Express. He added that the move is aligned with PAL’s broader strategy to boost tourism and economic growth across the region.

Alongside the new route, PAL is significantly increasing its flight frequencies from Cebu. Flights to Siargao and Busuanga (Coron) will soon operate three times daily, providing more convenient options for leisure travelers and reducing the need to transit through Manila.

The airline is also expanding service on several other key domestic routes. Flights between Cebu and Bacolod will increase from 14 to 18 weekly, Cebu-Butuan from 7 to 11, Cebu-Cotabato from 2 to 3, Cebu-Ozamiz from 3 to 4, and Cebu-Tacloban from 11 to 14 weekly flights.

These enhancements reflect PAL’s commitment to improving domestic connectivity while cementing Cebu’s role as a true gateway to the Visayas, Mindanao, and beyond. From Mactan-Cebu International Airport, PAL also operates regional international flights to Tokyo, Osaka, Seoul, and Ho Chi Minh City.

Overall, PAL continues to expand its reach with a fleet of Boeing, Airbus, and De Havilland aircraft, flying nonstop from its hubs in Manila, Cebu, Clark, and Davao to 31 domestic and 38 international destinations across Asia, North America, Australia, and the Middle East.
