Whoscall rolls out community-driven scam protection

Gogolook, a global trust tech company, unveiled a revamped version of its anti-scam app Whoscall on Thursday, targeting the growing incidence of scams in the Philippines. The update introduces AI-driven scam protection and a “growth-driven anti-scam community” that incentivizes users to report fraudulent activity.

The launch follows findings from the 2025 Asia Scam Report: Philippines—a study by Gogolook, the Global Anti-Scam Alliance (GASA), and ScamAdviser—showing 72 percent of Filipinos have encountered scams, with one occurring every two days on average. The report also highlights the mental toll of scams, with 52 percent of victims reporting psychological stress and 40 percent noting a decline in mental well-being.

Gogolook co-founder and CEO Jeff Kuo said the app’s redesign aligns with its new brand ethos, “Innovating for Trust, Powered by People.” Key features include AI-powered fraud detection, a comprehensive scam database, global user reports, and deeper collaboration with law enforcement.

“We’re building an anti-scam community that not only protects but also empowers users,” said Kuo. He added that in 2024, Whoscall users across 57 countries submitted 135 million scam reports.

A refreshed visual identity, including a new “W” logo symbolizing trust and cooperation, and a virtual character “Vee” as a digital guide, were also introduced to enhance engagement.

Mel Migriño, Gogolook’s Philippines country head, emphasized that scams are now prevalent across all digital channels, including social media, ads, and even physical delivery scams. “With scammers leveraging deepfakes and AI bots, platforms with high interaction are especially vulnerable,” she warned.

New features such as Web Checker (for phishing site detection) and Check (for image-based scam verification) bolster Whoscall’s capabilities. These tools are powered by AI and supported by ScamAdviser’s extensive scam website database.

The app now includes gamified tools like “Whoscall Mission,” launching in Q4, where users earn points through daily tasks and referrals. These can be redeemed for app upgrades or partner vouchers, promoting daily scam awareness and action.

Whoscall aims to evolve from a caller ID tool into a full-fledged digital security partner, Gogolook said, as the company enters its second decade.
