New scam shield protects Globe users from phishing threats

Globe Telecom has introduced a new SMS Scam Shield feature within the GlobeOne app, aiming to protect users from increasing text-based phishing scams. This feature, available to Android users, alerts customers about potentially fraudulent messages that spoof trusted brands like Globe and GCash.

The SMS Scam Shield scans incoming messages locally on users’ devices, detecting fake sender IDs and phishing links. Once activated, users are notified of suspicious messages, enhancing security without compromising privacy, as no SMS content is stored or read by Globe.

The system, which has already flagged over 13,000 phishing attempts in its early weeks, is part of Globe’s broader commitment to enhancing digital security for its customers. The service is free to use and reflects Globe’s ongoing efforts to incorporate more AI-powered protections in its services.

Coco Domingo, Globe’s product experience VP, said that this initiative gives users more control and peace of mind in navigating a digital landscape fraught with sophisticated scams. The launch marks an early step in Globe’s long-term plans to build proactive cybersecurity tools for Filipino consumers.
