The Department of Agriculture (DA) has lifted the temporary ban on poultry imports from Israel and South Dakota, USA, after both areas successfully contained avian influenza outbreaks.
Agriculture Secretary Francisco P. Tiu Laurel Jr. signed administrative orders removing restrictions on the import of poultry meat, birds, eggs, and related products. The decision follows reports to the World Organization for Animal Health (WOAH) confirming no new cases of highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) since mid-July.
“These decisions are based on scientific evidence and international reporting standards,” said Tiu Laurel, emphasizing the balance between biosecurity and food supply stability.
The DA reaffirmed that such bans are precautionary, aimed at protecting local livestock and poultry industries crucial to food security, rural jobs, and investment.
