Wick Veloso has resumed his role as president and general manager of the Government Service Insurance System (GSIS), unveiling a set of initiatives aimed at strengthening member services and expanding support for government employees and pensioners.
Speaking at the Kapihan sa Manila Bay forum, Veloso reported that GSIS assets have grown from ₱1.54 trillion in 2022 to ₱1.88 trillion, with 73 percent invested in safe, risk-free instruments. He underscored the agency’s financial stability and reaffirmed its focus on long-term member value.
Key initiatives include a review of dividend policies, a housing redevelopment project at Manila North Harbor with former Manila Mayor Isko Moreno, and a potential partnership with health agencies—including DOH, PhilHealth, and UP–PGH—to provide affordable medicines to members and retirees. GSIS is also working with the University of the Philippines to develop lodging and commercial facilities for government doctors at UP–PGH.
In response to a directive from President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., Veloso announced a joint effort with the Department of Transportation to develop a transportation hub to help ease congestion. The Lease With Option to Buy (LWOB) program will also be expanded to give more members access to affordable housing.
“Every peso entrusted to us by our 2.1 million active members and nearly 600,000 pensioners is managed with discipline and returned through benefits that matter,” Veloso said.
