Aboitiz Foundation, Inc. and the TELUS Digital Philippines Community Board conducted a three-day workshop aimed at equipping public school teachers with practical skills in artificial intelligence (AI), as part of their Empowering Educators Year 2 program.
The training, titled “Empowering Educators: Harnessing AI for Future-Ready Teaching,” was held in celebration of National Teachers’ Month and featured hands-on sessions led by Google for Education experts. Participants learned prompt engineering, explored AI tools, and developed AI-powered solutions for classroom and school improvement.
Phoebe Carrera, CSR senior manager at TELUS Digital Asia Pacific, emphasized their commitment to digital education, saying, “Teachers deserve strong partners as they navigate the digital transformation of education.”
Capstone projects presented by the teachers showcased applications of AI to streamline school operations and enhance learning environments. Aboitiz Foundation president Ginggay Hontiveros-Malvar highlighted the broader impact of teacher training: “When teachers are equipped with the right tools and knowledge, they can transform classrooms and uplift entire communities.”
The workshop received support from Ronald McDonald House Charities, Converge ICT, and the Department of Education–Manila. DepEd-Manila OIC superintendent Nerissa R. Lomeda noted the growing role of AI in education, citing its use in personalized learning, intelligent tutoring, and predictive analytics.
Now in its second year, the program continues the partnership between Aboitiz Foundation and TELUS Digital Philippines, reaffirming their joint mission to prepare educators and students for a rapidly evolving digital future.
