PLDT, Smart on alert for Storm Opong

PLDT and Smart Communications remain on heightened alert as Severe Tropical Storm Opong (Bualoi) sweeps across the Philippines, bringing heavy rain and strong winds. In response, the companies are closely monitoring the situation and have activated disaster response teams to ensure communication links remain intact in affected regions.

Roby Alampay, head of public engagement at PLDT and Smart, emphasized the importance of safety and urged residents in impacted areas to follow local authorities’ warnings.

The PLDT Group has ramped up its coordination with local governments and Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Offices (DRRMOs) in Albay, Southern Leyte, and other affected areas, ensuring vital communication support. Additionally, PLDT and Smart are collaborating with the Alagang Kapatid Foundation to set up “Libreng Tawag” (Free Call) stations in disaster-stricken areas, offering emergency communications through Ligtas Kits.

The companies continue to prioritize connectivity and encourage residents to keep devices charged while following safety protocols.
