Keppel’s subsea cable system achieves ready-for-service status

Keppel Ltd. announced on Monday that the Bifrost Cable System has officially reached ready-for-service (RFS) status and is set to begin carrying commercial traffic in the coming weeks.

Spanning 20,000 kilometers, Bifrost is the world’s first subsea cable system to directly connect Singapore to the U.S. West Coast via Indonesia, with landings in Guam, Grover Beach (California), and branching units to Jakarta, Manado, Davao (Philippines), and Winema (Oregon).

The system introduces over 260 Tbps of additional capacity, significantly enhancing connectivity and resilience across the Asia-Pacific and one of the world’s busiest digital corridors.

“This landmark project will bolster digital connectivity between Southeast Asia and the USA,” said Manjot Singh Mann, CEO of Keppel’s Connectivity division. He added that Bifrost strengthens Singapore’s role as a key digital hub and supports the region’s expanding digital economy.

Keppel holds five of Bifrost’s 12 fibre pairs through a 40-60 joint venture with private fund co-investors.

Converge ICT is the designated landing party in Davao, with CEO Dennis Anthony Uy emphasizing the system’s role in enhancing international bandwidth and network resilience in the Philippines.

Constructed by Alcatel Submarine Networks (ASN), Bifrost is expected to support the next wave of digital transformation and global data exchange.
