GSIS loan launch attracts thousands on day one

The Government Service Insurance System (GSIS) received a surge of applications on October 10, the first day of its Digital Ginhawa Loan program, with 21,418 government employees applying for a total of ₱1.258 billion in loans via the GSIS Touch mobile app.

As of press time, 9,461 loans worth ₱565.7 million have been approved, with numbers expected to rise over the weekend.

The Digital Ginhawa Loan offers up to ₱60,000 for the purchase of digital devices such as laptops, tablets, or smartphones, aiming to support members’ productivity and remote work needs. The loan features a 6 percent annual interest rate, repayable over 36 months, and is available exclusively through the GSIS Touch app.

“This digital loan empowers our members to upgrade their tools for work and stay connected in the digital era, all in just a few taps,” said GSIS president and general manager Wick Veloso.

Eligible borrowers include active, permanently appointed GSIS members with no pending administrative or criminal cases, not on leave without pay, and with no defaulted GSIS loans. Once certified by the Agency Authorized Officer, loan proceeds are credited directly to the borrower’s GSIS eCard or ATM.

The loan is protected by Loan Redemption Insurance (LRI), which covers any remaining balance in the event of the borrower’s death, provided the loan is in good standing.

Veloso said the loan program is part of GSIS’s broader digital transformation to make services faster, paperless, and more accessible to government workers nationwide.
