GSIS offers emergency loans for Davao quake victims

The Government Service Insurance System (GSIS) announced its readiness to provide emergency financial assistance to active members and pensioners in Davao Oriental, following the twin earthquakes that recently struck the province and nearby areas.

GSIS president and general manager Wick Veloso said the agency is monitoring the situation closely and stands prepared to help members recover through its Emergency Loan Program. Qualified applicants may borrow up to ₱40,000 if they have an existing emergency loan, or ₱20,000 if they have none, with a 6 percent annual interest rate and a three-month grace period. The loan is payable over 36 months.

Veloso emphasized that applications are being promptly processed through digital channels such as the GSIS Touch mobile app, GWAPS kiosks, or over-the-counter. Proceeds will be credited directly to GSIS ATM cards.

GSIS is also coordinating with local government units to assess damage to insured government properties for faster claims processing and restoration of services.

As of October 12, GSIS had released over ₱346 million in emergency loans to more than 12,000 members and pensioners in Cebu after a recent earthquake. Veloso assured similar support will be extended to other quake-hit areas once placed under a state of calamity.
