Pacific Sun Renewables Corp. is planning to build a P4.9 billion solar power plant in Paoay, Ilocos Norte. The project aims to generate 120.96 megawatts (MW) of electricity and will cover about 81.81 hectares across Barangays Mumulaan, Suba, and Nagbacalan.
The company submitted its plans to the Department of Environment and Natural Resources, noting that the site is ideal due to strong sunlight exposure, flat terrain, and access to road networks. The area receives 4.5 to 5.5 kilowatt hours of solar energy per square meter daily—ideal for solar power generation.
The project is expected to support the region’s energy needs, reduce carbon emissions, and boost the local economy through job creation and lower electricity costs. Around 800 workers will be needed during construction, while 15 to 30 personnel will operate the facility once completed.
Construction is expected to take 12 to 18 months, including testing and commissioning. The facility is also designed for future expansion and integration with energy storage systems.
As of July 2025, the Philippines has 3,394 MW of solar power capacity, making up 10.7 percent of the country’s total energy supply.
