NAIA holds first full-scale crash drill under new private operator

The New NAIA Infrastructure Corp. (NNIC), the private group now managing the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA), will carry out its first full-scale crash rescue drill on Friday, October 17.

The exercise, called Crash Rescue Exercise (CREX) 2025, will simulate a departing plane with 120 passengers and 6 crew members hitting debris on the runway, causing damage, a fuel leak, and a fire. The goal is to test and improve the airport’s emergency response capabilities.

Over 600 personnel from airport rescue, firefighting, medical, and security units will take part, along with national and local emergency agencies. The Philippine Airlines is a partner airline for the drill.

The event will take place in a secured area of the airfield to avoid disrupting normal operations. The drill is required by the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines and follows international safety standards.
