Acting Transportation Secretary Giovanni Lopez has ordered the deferment of a ₱50 million vehicle procurement plan for the Department of Transportation (DOTr) Central Office, reallocating the funds instead to enhance facilities at the Land Transportation Office (LTO) and Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB).
In a memorandum dated October 16, Lopez cited President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s directive to prioritize quality public service, stating that the reallocation aims to improve waiting and client areas in LTO and LTFRB offices. The upgrades will include the installation of air conditioning units, water dispensers, and adequate seating for clients.
“The client who gave the feedback is right. We in government are servants, not lords,” Lopez said. “These improvements are more important than new vehicles. We want to ensure that the public is comfortable—rain or shine—while transacting in our offices.”
The acting secretary also instructed the two transport agencies to use the reallocated funds efficiently. The funds are valid for use until the end of 2025.
