PLDT Inc. announced Wednesday that Anastacio R. Martirez has resigned as chief operating officer of Smart Communications Inc., amid allegations of a toxic workplace culture under his leadership.
“Mr. Anastacio R. Martirez has today expressed his intention to pursue his original entrepreneurial ventures, which will be outside Smart Communications, Inc.,” the company said in a statement.
“Smart has accepted his decision and wishes him well in such ventures,” it added.
Martirez rejoined the PLDT Group in September 2024 after a two-decade absence, returning with a mandate to help reclaim the company’s leadership in the mobile sector.
