Siena College campuses go fully green with ACEN RES partnership

The campuses of Siena College in Quezon City and Taytay are now running entirely on renewable energy as a result of the school’s partnership with ACEN RES, the Ayala Group’s retail electricity arm—marking a major step in the schools’ mission to educate with both mind and conscience.

Guided by the Dominican Sisters of St. Catherine of Siena, the Catholic academic network has long been committed to nurturing the youth through values-based education and care for creation. The shift to renewables, timed ahead of the school year, gives tangible expression to Laudato Si’, Pope Francis’ encyclical on Care for Our Common Home, which calls for ecological conversion and stewardship of the Earth.

“With this transition, we walk the talk on sustainability and live out the message of Laudato Si’,” said Sr. Maria Celia Varon, O.P., president of Siena College of Quezon City. “Beyond ecological responsibility, this partnership also optimizes our energy costs—allowing us to continue providing quality education that remains accessible to many.”

Sr. Rosalea Busilac, O.P., president of Siena College of Taytay, added that the move reflects a commitment to the next generation. “By embracing renewable energy, we ensure a healthier planet for our students’ future. The savings from efficiency will go back into improving learning experiences and expanding access to education,” she said.

To mark the milestone, ACEN RES awarded Siena the “Powered by Renewable Energy” badge—symbolizing the schools’ full transition to clean power.

Tony Valdez, ACEN’s senior vice president for market transformation, lauded the initiative: “More institutions are realizing that renewable energy isn’t just good for the planet—it’s smart for long-term sustainability. Siena’s leadership sets a strong example for schools nationwide.”

Together, the two campuses are expected to avoid about 290 tons of carbon emissions every month, embodying Siena’s vision of faith in action and education in harmony with creation.
