SMC waives toll for gov’t vehicles in Typhoon Uwan relief efforts

San Miguel Corp. (SMC) has suspended toll fees for marked government vehicles engaged in relief and recovery operations in areas hit by Typhoon Uwan. The move supports President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.’s directive to ensure unhindered movement of responders across Luzon.

SMC chairman and CEO Ramon S. Ang said the company’s toll operations teams are working with the Department of Transportation (DOTr) and the Toll Regulatory Board (TRB) to implement the order swiftly. “Our priority is to make sure responders get to affected communities as quickly as possible,” Ang said.

SMC Infrastructure, which operates major expressways including the Skyway, SLEX, STAR Tollway, TPLEX, and NAIA Expressway, has also deployed personnel to assist emergency convoys and ensure smooth passage.

Ahead of the typhoon, the company conducted inspections, cleared drainage systems, and positioned quick-response teams in flood-prone areas. Motorists are reminded to drive cautiously amid inclement weather.

SMC previously waived over ₱230 million in toll fees for medical frontliners during the COVID-19 pandemic.
