BSP: Reliable data key to policies that truly help Filipinos

The Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) stressed the crucial role of accurate and accessible data in shaping policies that improve the lives of Filipinos.

Speaking at the closing ceremony of the 36th National Statistics Month (NSM) on 28 October 2025, BSP Monetary Board Member Rosalia V. De Leon said, “Data is the lens through which we understand our people’s needs, and the map that helps us reach a better future.” She noted that strong data systems allow the government to measure progress and “tells us what is working, what is not, and where we must act with greater urgency.”

This year’s NSM, themed “Accelerating the Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) Pace of Progress: Mobilizing Data for All,” emphasized how inclusive and accessible statistics help track the country’s progress toward global development goals and guide effective policy responses.

Throughout October, agencies under the Philippine Statistical System held panel discussions, scientific sessions, and interactive exhibits, bringing together participants from government, academia, media, and the private sector.

The month-long observance highlighted how reliable and well-used data can support decision-making and uplift communities.

During the closing ceremony, the Philippine Statistics Authority also recognized government offices, local governments, private organizations, and youth groups for their efforts in promoting the effective use of statistics.

The NSM is celebrated every October under Presidential Proclamation No. 647 issued in 1990.
