ATPI, a global marine travel and logistics company, said the Philippines continues to be one of its most important crew source markets, citing the country’s large pool of highly skilled, English-proficient seafarers.
The company said demand for Filipino crew has grown steadily over the past year, especially in offshore energy, short-sea container shipping, and passenger vessels. ATPI expects demand to grow 5 percent to 7 percent annually over the next 12 to 18 months.
The announcement comes as the maritime industry faces major shifts, including tighter crew rotations, more group travel movements, and a stronger push for digitalisation to improve efficiency, safety, and compliance. Global fleet expansion and the recovery of the cruise and offshore sectors are also driving industry growth.
A 2024 BIMCO/International Chamber of Shipping report estimates that about 1.89 million seafarers serve on internationally trading merchant ships, including 857,540 officers and 1,035,180 ratings.
ATPI Philippines managing director Yvette Araullo said these trends are reshaping deployment patterns for Filipino crew and highlight the need for more agile, tech-enabled operations. To address this, ATPI is investing in better data visibility, flexible travel solutions, and stronger airline and marine agency partnerships. The company has expanded its marine infrastructure in major transit hubs and secured more flight capacity for time-sensitive crew changes.
ATPI is also rolling out proprietary platforms such as CrewHub and CrewLink, designed to streamline crew travel booking, tracking, and reporting. Its Travel Tracking System provides real-time location updates, risk alerts, and communication tools to support crew safety.
Strengthening its Philippine presence, ATPI recently opened a 24/7 World Support Center in Manila to deliver comprehensive travel management services. The company said the investment underscores its commitment to Filipino talent and reinforces the Philippines’ role as a critical global maritime hub.
