The Department of Agriculture (DA) expects stronger agricultural and food industry ties after the Philippines took part in the World Food India 2025 event. On Monday, the agency said the participation could help the country expand its export markets and build new global partnerships.
Agriculture Secretary Francisco Tiu Laurel Jr. said the initiative supports the DA’s push to boost high-value crops and fisheries through better production, new technologies, incentives, and closer coordination with local governments and industry groups. Plans also include developing major food hubs and strategically located wholesale markets to improve supply chains and promote premium products internationally.
The Philippine delegation—composed of the DA, the National Organic Agriculture Program, and the Philippine Food Processors and Exporters Organization Inc.—met with India’s Ministry of Food Industry and Processing and joined technical sessions in preparation for World Food India 2027, where the country aims to showcase its unique agricultural and fisheries products.
In a courtesy call with Philippine Ambassador to India Josel Francisco Ignacio, the group discussed ways to connect Filipino producers, including women-led and organic enterprises, to India’s vast food market and growing middle-class demand. Delegates also joined sessions covering pet food, nutraceuticals, plant-based items, alcoholic beverages, and specialty products.
