Movem Electric, Inc., the electric mobility subsidiary of Manuel V. Pangilinan-led Manila Electric Company (Meralco), has partnered with Megaworld to electrify the property developer’s Citylink bus fleet across several of its townships.
Under the partnership, electric buses will be deployed by CityLink Coach Services Inc., which transports residents, workers, and commuters in Megaworld communities across Metro Manila. A pilot unit began operating in McKinley Hill, Taguig, in April, with a second e-bus scheduled for rollout in Newport City, Pasay, in December.
Megaworld and Movem plan wider deployment in Uptown Bonifacio and selected Visayas townships, with nine additional buses expected by 2026. Each e-bus can carry 24 seated and 11 standing passengers and will run alongside existing internal combustion engine units, which will be gradually phased out. Movem will also install EV charging facilities to support fleet operations.
Megaworld head of estate management Don Earl Caagbay said the initiative advances the developer’s goal of building sustainable townships, describing the partnership as “just the beginning of bringing this vision to reality.” Movem chief operating officer Maria Francesca Defensor said the collaboration reflects a shared commitment to “accelerate electric mobility initiatives” and promote cleaner transport nationwide.
The companies said the shift to e-buses will cut emissions and noise pollution while improving commuter experience, offering a model for other urban developments aiming to adopt greener mobility systems.
