OF remittances rise to US$3.1B in September

Cash remittances from overseas Filipinos continued to help power the economy as inflows rose to US$3.12 billion in September 2025, up 3.7 percent from US$3.01 billion in the same month last year, according to the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP).

From January to September 2025, cash remittances reached US$26.03 billion, a 3.2 percent increase from US$25.23 billion posted in the same period in 2024. The BSP noted that these steady inflows remain a critical driver of domestic consumption, supporting household spending and contributing to the country’s external payments position.

Also, the United States remained the leading origin of cash remittances during the first nine months of 2025, followed by Singapore and Saudi Arabia, the BSP reported. The central bank, however, reiterated limitations in attributing remittances by source country.
Many remittance centers abroad channel funds through correspondent banks—often located in the U.S.—which can distort the true geographical origins of inflows.

Remittances transmitted through money couriers are also recorded under the country where their main offices are based, typically the U.S. As a result, the U.S. may appear to be the dominant source even when actual senders reside elsewhere.

Personal remittances, which include cash transfers sent through banks and informal channels as well as in-kind contributions, rose 3.8 percent year-on-year to US$3.46 billion in September 2025 from US$3.34 billion in 2024.

For the first nine months of the year, personal remittances reached US$28.97 billion, also up 3.2 percent from US$28.07 billionin the same period last year.

On a seasonally adjusted month-on-month basis, personal remittances posted a 1 percent gain.

The BSP emphasized that these sustained inflows continue to bolster the country’s resilience by providing stable foreign exchange, supporting domestic demand, and contributing to overall economic growth.
