Mastercard has joined the launch of Google Pay in the Philippines, allowing its cardholders to make quick, contactless payments in stores, apps, and online using Android devices. The move aims to make everyday transactions easier while keeping users’ data secure through Mastercard’s tokenization technology, which replaces sensitive card information with a unique digital token.
“Google Pay brings faster, convenient, and secure payments to the Philippines, supporting financial inclusion and the country’s growing digital economy,” said Prep Palacios, Google Philippines country manager.
Jason Crasto, Mastercard Philippines country manager, added that the service simplifies payments and advances the country toward a digitally inclusive economy where secure, tokenized transactions are standard.
Initially, Google Pay will support select Mastercard cards, including Chinabank, EastWest Bank, GCash, RCBC, and Zed. More banks are expected to join soon. Users can set up Google Pay via the Google Wallet app and pay by tapping their phone at contactless terminals or selecting Google Pay online or in-app.
The launch reflects Mastercard’s push to promote contactless payments in the Philippines, where tap-and-go transactions are steadily rising.
