BPI launches affordable protection vs critical illness

The Bank of the Philippine Islands and BPI/MS Insurance Corp. have introduced BPI Kaya Care Critical Illness Insurance, a low-cost plan designed to give Filipinos easier access to protection against major health threats. The launch comes as the Philippine Statistics Authority reports that ischemic heart disease, cancer and cerebrovascular diseases remained among the country’s top causes of death in 2023.

BPI Kaya Care provides a lump-sum cash benefit upon diagnosis of cancer, heart attack or stroke. Early-stage cases receive half of the benefit, while late-stage or major diagnoses receive the full amount. The benefit can be claimed as long as the insured survives seven days after diagnosis, allowing families to begin treatment quickly and manage financial pressures, whether for medical care, therapy, medication or day-to-day needs.

“At BPI, our purpose is clear: to Build a Better Philippines, one family, one community at a time,” said Maria Cristina “Ginbee” Go, consumer banking head of BPI. She said critical illness insurance has long felt complicated and inaccessible, adding, “BPI Kaya Care is more than a policy—it’s a partner that helps families focus on recovery without financial strain, support that truly matters when it matters most.”

BPI said the product helps close a gap left by treatment-specific government programs, noting that many people delay treatment while securing funds. Kaya Care is designed to provide immediate cash support so patients can focus on timely care and better outcomes.

Premiums start at ₱859 per year depending on age and plan, and customers can apply online or through BPI branches and BPI MS offices. The companies said the claims process has also been simplified.

“The silent crisis of underinsurance, coupled with surging medical costs, creates an urgent need for simple, accessible insurance solutions,” said Noriyuki Kobayashi, president and CEO of BPI MS. “BPI MS is proud to collaborate with BPI to bring BPI Kaya Care to life. By delivering this vital and affordable protection to the core and middle markets, we are helping more Filipino families secure their future and take control of their health without compromising their financial stability.”

BPI said the new product supports its broader goal of helping strengthen Filipino families and national resilience, complementing government efforts to expand healthcare infrastructure and improve access to specialized care.
