REDC launches Bukidnon hydro tests, plans four new plants

Repower Energy Development Corp. (REDC) has started commissioning its new 18.2-MW run-of-river hydropower plant in Bukidnon. The facility, located along the Pulangi River between Valencia City and San Fernando, employed more than 900 workers during round-the-clock construction.

When fully operational, the plant is expected to produce about 130 GWh of power annually—enough to supply electricity to more than 54,000 households. The project, costing ₱4 billion, was funded by proceeds from REDC’s 2023 IPO. It is the company’s ninth operating hydro plant but its first in Mindanao.

REDC is also building the 4.5-MW Piapi hydro project in Quezon, targeted for completion in late 2027. In addition, the company plans to begin construction on four more hydropower facilities in the coming months, totaling ₱10.3 billion.

The company currently operates several other plants in Quezon, Bicol, and Laguna, and serves as the hydropower arm of Pure Energy Holdings Corp.
