Aboitiz Power says unit SNAP disputing compliance penalty

Aboitiz Power Corporation disclosed that its joint venture, SN Aboitiz Power-Magat, Inc. (SNAP Magat), is contesting a penalty issued by the Enforcement and Compliance Office of the Philippine Electricity Market Corp over alleged dispatch-schedule violations last June.

The Notice of Confirmation of Penalty—amounting to roughly P1.37 million—centers on supposed non-compliance with Dispatch Conformance Standards set by the Department of Energy.

According to Aboitiz Power, SNAP Magat reported that most of the flagged deviations were the result of honoring its contractual obligation to provide Ancillary Services under its agreement with the National Grid Corp. of the Philippines (NGCP). Such services, which help stabilize grid operations, often require generators to adjust output outside normal dispatch patterns.

On November 21, SNAP Magat filed an Appeal Memorandum with the PEMC Compliance Committee challenging the enforcement office’s resolution. The joint venture continues to engage regulators as the matter remains pending.

Aboitiz Power said that it will disclose significant updates as they arise, in line with public reporting requirements. SNAP Magat forms part of Aboitiz Renewables, Inc. (ARI), the company’s platform for renewable energy investments developed in partnership with SN Power Philippines through Manila-Oslo Renewable Enterprise, Inc.

The dispute highlights ongoing tensions between strict market compliance rules and the operational realities of maintaining grid reliability—a balance increasingly critical as the Philippines accelerates its transition toward cleaner, more flexible power.
