NexGen Energy Corp., through its wind subsidiary Airstream Renewables Corp. (ARC), has secured three new onshore wind energy service contracts from the Department of Energy totaling 1,700 megawatts (MW) and about $2.5 billion in potential investment.
The projects include a 600-MW wind farm in Pangasinan, another 600-MW site in Samar, and a 500-MW development in Nueva Ecija. Each project has received its DOE certificate of registration.
The Pangasinan project will cover 13,770 hectares and connect to the Labrador substation via an 8-km 230-kV transmission line. The Samar project will span 16,929 hectares with a 7-km 138-kV link to the Victoria substation, while the Nueva Ecija site will occupy 9,234 hectares and use a 15-km 230-kV line to the Sampaloc substation.
NexGen president Eric Roxas said the approvals mark a “major step forward” in expanding the company’s development pipeline and strengthen ARC’s position as a leading large-scale wind developer.
NexGen is a subsidiary of Pure Energy Holdings Corp., which has interests in renewable energy, water distribution, and septage services. Its affiliates include Repower Energy Development Corp. and Tubig Pilipinas Group Inc. NexGen is also developing solar projects and will build power facilities to support Pure Energy’s planned climate-controlled indoor farming ventures.
