ABS-CBN confirms TV5 has ended content supply deal, says payment issues still disputed

ABS-CBN said it has received TV5’s notice ending their TV Content Supply Agreement, a move the network described as a major setback as it continues to recover from the loss of its broadcast franchise.

The company clarified that reports about the amounts it owes TV5 are inaccurate, saying both the figures and the manner of payment are still under dispute. ABS-CBN said it has asked for more time to settle the issue and is working to resolve the matter within the 30-day period given by TV5. The network stressed it is committed to meeting its obligations to TV5 and other partners.

ABS-CBN also denied claims that it intentionally delayed payments, saying it is dealing with severe financial strain caused by events beyond its control. The company pointed to the shutdown of its free-to-air TV and radio operations in May 2020, followed by Congress’ denial of its franchise renewal two months later—developments that drastically cut its revenue and pushed it into losses for the first time since its return after Martial Law.

While ABS-CBN said some revenue sources have begun to recover, the company continues to operate at a loss. Still, it highlighted progress under its transformation into a “storytelling company,” noting steady improvements even if a full turnaround has yet to be achieved.

If the partnership with TV5 is ultimately terminated, ABS-CBN said it will continue finding ways to deliver content to its audiences. The network reaffirmed its commitment to serving Filipinos and expressed hope for solutions grounded in fairness, collaboration, and the needs of viewers.
