The Philippine Institute of Certified Public Accountants (PICPA) has named SM Investments chairman emeritus Jose T. Sio an Honorary Life Member for more than two decades of service and contributions to the accounting profession.
PICPA cited Sio’s long-standing leadership, accomplishments, and active involvement in professional organizations. Sio said he was honored by the recognition, noting the importance of accountancy in supporting business growth and strengthening stakeholder trust.
Sio has previously received the Accountancy Centenary Award of Excellence (2023) and the Parangal San Mateo (2022), the profession’s highest honor.
Born in Iloilo, Sio earned his accounting degree from the University of San Agustin and an MBA from New York University. He joined SM Investments as CFO in 1990 and became chairman in 2017, earning multiple regional and local CFO awards throughout his tenure. He played a key role in the company’s 2005 initial public offering, which held the record as the country’s largest IPO for 15 years and helped push SM to a P1-trillion market capitalization.
Sio currently serves on the boards of China Bank, Atlas Mining, NLEX Corp., and holds advisory and leadership roles at BDO Unibank, SM Foundation, Far Eastern University, and Asia Pacific College.
