World famous fast food chain, McDonald’s, marked its 44th year in the Philippines with the opening of a new Green and Good store at Il Corso Cebu recently, reinforcing the food company’s twin push for sustainability and inclusive employment.
“We are absolutely thrilled to open our doors at McDonald’s Il Corso,” said president and CEO Kenneth S. Yang, who described the outlet’s contemporary aesthetic as a nod to Cebu’s reputation as the Philippines’ design capital. Yang added that its eco-friendly features reflect the company’s long-term Green and Good commitment.
Beyond design, the expansion underscores McDonald’s role as a major job generator. Each new branch employs 80 to 100 people, contributing to the company’s nationwide workforce of roughly 70,000—many of them Gen Z students benefiting from flexible schedules and world-class training. “We strongly believe in providing opportunities for Filipinos, regardless of age, background, and gender identity or expression,” Yang said.
The Il Corso launch also saw McDonald’s sign a memorandum of agreement with the Cebu provincial government to expand M for All, its inclusive hiring program for senior citizens and persons with disabilities. Seventeen stores across the province will onboard 102 seniors in three-month rotations.
As a Green and Good branch, McDonald’s Il Corso features rooftop solar panels, solar-powered lampposts, rainwater harvesting systems, motion sensors, LED lighting, and a Variable Refrigerant Flow cooling system.
Following recent earthquakes and Typhoons Tino and Uwan, the company also activated its Kindness Kitchen, distributing more than 50,000 hot meals to affected residents, volunteers, health workers, and its own employees.
