Repower Energy Development Corp. (REDC) is accelerating its renewable push in Mindanao as its subsidiary, Maramag Hydropower Corp., broke ground on the P6.3-billion Pulangi IV Hydropower Project—an 25-megaWatt run-of-river facility set to strengthen the region’s clean-energy backbone.
The ceremony, held at the project site in Maramag, Bukidnon, drew high-level support from key national energy officials and industry leaders. Among those in attendance were DOE Secretary Sharon Garin, DOE REMB Director Marissa Cerezo, PSALM President and CEO Dennis De la Serna, Undersecretary Sammy Young, NPC’s Albert Antonio, Pure Energy Chairman and CEO Dexter Tiu, REDC President Eric Roxas, and Tokai President Mitsugu Hamazaki, along with local leaders and stakeholders.
“This groundbreaking represents the start of our second of several hydropower projects here, that will not only contribute clean and reliable energy to the Mindanao grid but will also support long-term regional development, in line with national energy goals,” said REDC President Eric Y. Roxas.
Pulangi IV will tap the downstream portion of the Pulangi River—the same system powering REDC’s newly commissioned upstream facility on the Valencia–San Fernando border. Once completed, the plant will enhance grid stability, expand Mindanao’s renewable capacity, and deliver sustainable power to surrounding communities.
Beyond energy, the project promises economic lift for Bukidnon. Construction is expected to generate roughly 800 jobs, with priority given to workers from Maramag and neighboring towns, ensuring local participation in the province’s growing clean-energy corridor.
