DA completes nationwide rollout of P20 rice

The Department of Agriculture (DA) has officially completed bringing the P20-per-kilo rice program to all 82 provinces, marking a key milestone in the Marcos administration’s push for more affordable and stable food supplies.

The final launch took place in Maguindanao del Norte, extending access to low-cost rice to remote and conflict-affected towns including Barira, Buldon, Matanog, Sultan Kudarat, and Sultan Mastura. The rollout also highlights closer coordination between the national government and the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao, particularly in boosting local livelihood and strengthening agricultural value chains.

Assistant secretary Genevieve Guevarra said the program aims to ensure that “no one is left behind,” noting that its success relied on collaboration among multiple government agencies.

Thus far, the DA has set up 429 P20-rice sites nationwide. The agency plans to reach 15 million households next year as it prepares for a wider expansion in 2026. The next phase will focus on keeping supplies steady, supporting farmers, and maintaining affordable rice access for families across the country.
