Yellow alert briefly raised in Visayas grid

The Visayas power grid was briefly placed under a yellow alert on Thursday, December 11, due to several power plants being unavailable. A yellow alert means power reserves are low, but rolling outages are not yet expected.

According to the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP), the grid had 2,578 MW of available capacityagainst a peak demand of 2,535 MW as of 9:30 a.m. NGCP reported that multiple power plants were offline, including ten on forced outage this year, several others out since 2024 and earlier years, plus 16 plants running below capacity. This resulted in more than 482 MW of unavailable power.

The alert was lifted by 1 p.m., well before the projected 5–6 p.m. window, after supply and demand conditions improved. Only the Visayas Grid was affected; Luzon and Mindanao remained under normal status.
