Galician naval leaders chart Philippine collaboration

Spain’s Galician Naval Cluster (ACLUNAGA) is eyeing deeper cooperation with the Philippines in shipbuilding, maritime engineering, and industrial modernization as it advances its Southeast Asia business mission.

The Philippine Trade and Investment Center in Madrid (PTIC-Madrid) facilitated ACLUNAGA’s Manila stop, where cluster representatives met with government agencies, local shipyards, and private-sector groups to explore collaboration in vessel procurement, shipyard upgrading, technical consulting, and knowledge and technology transfer.

Joint manufacturing opportunities were also placed on the table as both sides assessed complementary strengths.

ACLUNAGA represents more than 130 companies across Galicia’s naval, maritime, and industrial ecosystem.

While the visiting firms were not named, the region’s shipbuilding supply chain spans industrial and energy-generation technologies, environmental and water-management systems, marine equipment, fluid power and automation systems, and advanced engineering solutions essential to modern vessel construction.

The cluster also includes organizations involved in trade promotion and fair management—critical components for global industry matchmaking.

During consultations, the companies underscored the Philippines’ strong position as a rising maritime hub, citing its large workforce, expanding shipyard infrastructure, and ongoing modernization priorities.

They noted clear complementarities between Galician expertise—particularly in naval construction, maritime engineering, and integrated industrial systems—and the Philippines’ need for upgraded capabilities to support commercial fleets, defense assets, and broader maritime development.

The Spanish delegation expressed confidence that continued engagement could lead to concrete partnerships, from technology-driven upgrades to co-designed shipbuilding projects.

PTIC-Madrid said the mission’s outcome affirms the momentum of Spain–Philippines commercial diplomacy, which aims to link Galician industrial strengths with Philippine development goals, especially in sectors that demand advanced engineering, sustainability solutions, and globally competitive maritime capabilities.
