Tuguegarao hospital transitions to geothermal power

Divine Mercy Wellness and Medical Center (DMWMC) in Tuguegarao City has partnered with First Gen Corp. to shift its electricity supply to renewable energy.

Under the agreement, the hospital will source power from the Tongonan Geothermal Power Plant in Leyte, operated by First Gen subsidiary Energy Development Corp. The transition follows the government’s Green Energy Option Program, which allows large power users to buy electricity directly from renewable energy providers.

DMWMC president Godofredo Cruz said the move supports the hospital’s commitment to environmental protection while maintaining high-quality healthcare services.

DMWMC is a 100-bed hospital with more than 200 medical specialists and offers round-the-clock diagnostic and laboratory services. It is part of the Mount Grace Hospitals network under the UNILAB Group.

First Gen said geothermal energy is a reliable and clean power source suited for hospitals. The company operates about 1,700 megawatts of renewable energy capacity nationwide from geothermal, hydro, wind, and solar power.
