Used battery recycling plant proposed in Tarlac

A company is planning to build a used battery recycling facility in Paniqui, Tarlac, according to documents from the Department of Environment and Natural Resources.

Green Ecosphere Industries Inc. is proposing a lead recycling plant that can process about 2,040 metric tons of used batteries every month. The facility is expected to produce around 1,000 metric tons of recycled lead ingots monthly, or about 12,000 metric tons a year.

The company commits to address environmental risks caused by the improper disposal of used batteries, which can lead to serious lead pollution.

The recycling facility will be located inside a warehouse at the Paniqui Industrial Complex, an existing industrial area. Recovered lead will be supplied to battery manufacturers, helping reduce the number of batteries that are improperly disposed of.

The project is also expected to generate jobs during operations, including positions for both skilled and unskilled workers, as well as support services.

While the project cost was not disclosed, plans include office and support facilities, battery receiving and inspection areas, cleaning sections, a furnace for processing, storage areas for materials, and equipment facilities. The plant will use processes such as smelting and crushing to recover materials from scrap batteries and prevent them from becoming waste.
