The government will spend P6 billion to rehabilitate EDSA, Metro Manila’s busiest road, 64.7 percent less than the original plan, Public Works Secretary Vince Dizon said Wednesday.
Dizon said the revised project is expected to save at least P11 billion compared to the previous P17-billion budget, while shortening the construction timeline from two years to eight months.
Rehabilitation will begin at 11 p.m. on December 24, 2025, and run continuously until 4 a.m. on January 5, 2026, taking advantage of the holiday season to minimize traffic disruption. Work during the following months, from January 5 to May 31, 2026, will occur only on weekdays between 10 p.m. and 4 a.m., ending by 5 a.m. to ensure roads are open for morning traffic.
The project will use new asphalt technology from Japan. The first four months will cover Roxas Boulevard to EDSA-Orense, with the remaining stretch completed in the following four months.
Dizon assured motorists that disruptions will be minimal in line with President Marcos’ instructions.
