PalawanPay brings Visa power to unbanked Filipinos

PalawanPay, the e-wallet of the Palawan Group of Companies, is widening access to digital payments with the launch of its Virtual Visa Card, a move aimed squarely at millions of Filipinos without bank accounts or credit cards.

The new offering allows verified PalawanPay users to instantly generate a Virtual Visa Card within the app, enabling secure online transactions across thousands of local and global merchants. From e-commerce purchases and subscription services to travel bookings and recurring bill payments, the card brings Visa’s global acceptance to users previously excluded from traditional financial tools.

“For many Filipinos, owning a Visa card has always felt out of reach, something that is reserved for those with bank accounts or credit lines,” said PalawanPay chief executive officer Third Librea. “We built the PalawanPay Virtual Visa Card to be simple, practical, and truly pang-masa. Now every Filipino, every suki, can access global commerce with confidence — securely and affordably.”

The launch strengthens PalawanPay’s position as a key player in financial inclusion, leveraging the Palawan Group’s extensive nationwide network and strong brand trust. With millions already using PalawanPay for remittances, bills payment, and cashless transactions, the Virtual Visa Card adds a powerful layer of functionality to the platform’s growing ecosystem.

Palawan Group chief marketing officer Bernard Kaibigan said the product is part of a broader effort to support a more inclusive digital economy. By lowering barriers to entry, PalawanPay aims to help more Filipinos participate in online commerce and digital financial services.

PalawanPay plans to roll out a physical Visa card by 2026, expanding usage beyond online transactions to point-of-sale and in-store payments worldwide — further bridging the gap between cash-based consumers and the global digital economy.
