Filipinos are encountering scam attempts nearly every day, according to a new nationwide study by the Global Anti-Scam Alliance (GASA). The survey found that the average Filipino comes across a scam every two days, and six out of ten people were targeted successfully at least once in the past year.
The study, which surveyed 1,000 adults across the country, shows that scams most often arrive through text messages and messaging apps. Common schemes include fake investment offers and promises of unexpected money. Many victims reported feeling stressed or overwhelmed, with some realizing only later that they had already been scammed.
The findings were released during the launch of the GASA Philippines Chapter, a multi-sector group aimed at strengthening efforts against scams. The chapter is chaired by Derick Ohmar Adil of Globe, with Gogolook and Meta serving as vice chairs. The initiative highlights the need for stronger coordination among industries to better protect consumers.
Through its role in the group, Globe will help lead education campaigns, improve information sharing on scam threats, and support closer cooperation across sectors. GASA, which operates globally, has long pushed for joint efforts among organizations to fight fraud and protect consumers.
Adil said scams now spread quickly across different platforms and cannot be solved by one group alone. He stressed that collaboration is key to helping Filipinos feel safer online.
In the coming months, GASA Philippines and its partners plan to develop recommendations, expand education and awareness programs, and align efforts across sectors. The goal is to create a safer digital environment and give Filipinos greater confidence when using online services.
