The Manila Electric Co., the country’s largest power distribution better known as Meralco, and the Electric Vehicle Association of the Philippines (EVAP) are ramping up efforts to accelerate electric vehicle adoption, reaffirming a partnership seen as critical to building a sustainable transport future.
EVAP officials recently paid a courtesy visit to Meralco executives to strengthen their long-standing collaboration, underscoring the growing urgency of aligning the country’s power sector with its electric mobility ambitions. Both sides agreed that partnerships between industry advocates and energy providers are essential to unlocking the full potential of the Philippine EV market.
Discussions highlighted the need for an ecosystem-wide approach to EV development—one that brings together vehicle manufacturers, fleet operators, charging solution providers, government agencies, and utilities.
By working in concert, stakeholders can address persistent barriers such as infrastructure gaps, policy alignment, and consumer awareness, while accelerating momentum toward wider EV adoption.
Meralco and EVAP also stressed the importance of synchronizing energy planning, regulatory frameworks, and sustainability programs.
Ensuring that the rapid expansion of EVs is supported by a stable, reliable, and future-ready power grid was cited as a key priority as demand for charging infrastructure grows.
The two organizations explored new areas of collaboration, including the organization of more EV conferences, technical forums, and high-level industry summits.
These platforms aim to deepen public education, elevate discussions on charging standards and technologies, and strengthen national readiness for increased EV penetration.
EVAP leaders commended Meralco for its pioneering role in electrification and sustainability, particularly through its Movem initiative.
Meralco’s ongoing efforts to deploy charging stations, enhance grid resilience, and promote clean-energy solutions were cited as vital contributions to shaping a cleaner, more electrified transport future for the Philippines.
